Curious about aesthetic treatments? Here’s what you need to know

    Written ByRK Medical Aesthetics

Maybe you’ve noticed a few fine lines in photos. Maybe your skin tone looks a little uneven lately, or you look more tired than you feel. You are wondering what you can do, but between all the treatment options, figuring out where to begin can feel like a lot.

The great news is, you don’t need to have a treatment plan picked out. At RK Medical Aesthetics in Mississauga, you just need to know what’s bothering you and we’ll take it from there together.

After your consultation, if you decide now isn’t the right time, that’s perfectly fine.

Start With What You See (Not a Product Name)

You don’t have to diagnose yourself, just describe what you notice and leave the rest to us.

Lines that show up when you smile or frown are different from the lines you see when your face is relaxed.

Uneven skin tone is a different concern than rough or dehydrated skin.

“I look tired” could mean shadows, volume changes, dull skin, or simply a busy week.

No single treatment fixes everything and sometimes a good skin care routine is the best first choice.

Before you come for your consultation, write down one or two priorities. Are you hoping for a subtle refresh, healthier looking skin, or just hoping to learn about what is possible? If you’re worried about looking “done” or unnatural, check out our post on natural-looking aesthetic results which describes a helpful way to think about your goals.

A Few Options You Might Hear About

Here are some common concerns that people come to us for:

    • Fine lines from facial expressions: Neuromodulators, like Botox, Nuceiva, and Xeomin, temporarily relax specific muscles to soften the movement of lines. They don’t work for every type of line, and your dose is tailored to your muscle movement.
    • Uneven tone or a dull surface: A customized facial or chemical peel may be a good start. Your skin sensitivity and sun exposure matter and a more intense treatment is not necessarily better. Your treatment will be based on your skin.
    • Texture and overall skin quality: SkinPen microneedling is worth considering. Improvements build gradually over a series of treatments building collagen, evening out skin tone and restoring skin glow.
    • Changes in facial volume: Dermal fillers can be an option for certain areas, but looking tired doesn’t automatically mean you need filler. Placement and suitability deserve careful consideration.

Your consultation is the place to talk it all through including what to expect, the timeline and the cost. From there we can come up with a treatment plan based on your time and budget.

    Think About Your Budget

Our pricing page is a helpful place to start. For example:

    • Signature Customized Facial: $120
    • Chemical peels (like the Jessner Glow Peel or Brightening Peel): $225
    • SkinPen microneedling with serums: $350
    • Neuromodulators: $10 per unit (number of units varies)
    • Dermal fillers: from $550 per syringe

Keep in mind that the starting price isn’t a quote for your specific goals.

It’s completely okay to let us know what your budget is and ask what can be done within that amount. Starting small may make more sense than jumping into a package you are not sure about. At RK Medical Aesthetics, consultations are complimentary, so exploring your options costs you nothing.

Plan for Possible Downtime (and keep Expectations Realistic)

“Minimal downtime” doesn’t always mean “no one will notice.”

Injectable treatments can cause bruising, swelling, or tenderness.

Microneedling and peels may leave the skin looking red, dry, peeling, or extra sensitive to the sun for a few days.

Results can vary. A facial won’t restore volume, and a neuromodulator won’t fade pigmentation. Every procedure carries some risk, and some injectable complications can be serious. Ask about possible side effects, what aftercare involves, and who and when to contact if something doesn’t feel right.

If you have a special evening or event coming up, let us know the date before planning any treatments. Be open about your medical history, medications, allergies, skin concerns, and past treatments. We use all of this information to recommend what’s right for you.

Questions to Bring to a First Consultation

    • What do you think is causing the concern I described?
    • What are my options, including waiting or using skin care alone?
    • What are the limitations, risks, total cost, and follow-up needs?
    • How might recovery affect my work, exercise, or upcoming plans?

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know which treatment I want before booking?

Not at all. Just bring the concern you want to talk about. Whether it is fine lines, uneven skin tone, areas of volume loss or looking tired, or anything else. Your consultation is the time to get informed about your options, ask about risks and costs, and decide whether moving forward with the plan feels right for you.

What’s a good first treatment if I want to start small?

It depends on your goals. A customized facial is a nice fit if you’re focused on skin health, while neuromodulators may be needed if you want to address expression lines. Starting with a daily skin routine tailored to you is always recommended.

How much should I budget for a first visit?

Consultations at RK Medical Aesthetics are complimentary. Starting prices include $120 for a Signature Customized Facial, $225 for a chemical peel, $350 for SkinPen microneedling with serums, neuromodulators from $10 per unit, and dermal filler from $550 per syringe. Your actual cost depends on your plan, and we’ll give you a quote before anything happens.

Will I need time off after treatment?

It depends on the treatment and how your skin responds. Facials may leave temporary redness, injectables can cause swelling or bruising, and peels or microneedling may require extra care while skin settles. Treatments with neuromodulators, such as Botox, often leave no visible signs of treatment after about 20 minutes. Ask about downtime and aftercare before scheduling around an event.
